HandMap Beta with Routing Details

We have an updated version of HandMap for Windows Mobile (ver 4.2) that supports a new Google Driving Direction plugin which we've developed. Using your wireless Internet connection you can now request a route between any two locations. Once calculated, the route is downloaded and displayed on the map you are viewing.

If you use a GPS receive you can now also benefit from the new turn directions downloaded, along with voice guidance for safer driving.

Quick Help instructions:-
Smartphone:
* in the map view, move the map to your destination location then press the '7' key (or 'Select' mode)
* press ENter key, then 'Set as Dest' list item
* move the map to your start location, OR turn on your GPS and wait for a lock
* Select the 'Menu->Plugins->Recalc Route!' menu item
* .. a screen will popup showing the download progress..

PocketPC:
* in the map view, move the map to your destination, then tap-and-hold on location
* Select 'Set as Dest.' context menu item
* move the map to your start location, OR turn on your GPS and wait for a lock
* Select the 'Menu->Plugins->Recalc Route!' menu item

Russian Localized HandMap Details

New Zealand Maps Updated Details

Our New Zealand City Maps product has been updated with the latest 2006 map data. This is a free update for all existing owners. The collection now features 23 maps. The new maps cover a selection of major cities and allow for zooming in closer for more detail in dense city areas.

Free Full Detail Australian Maps Details

Our attention has been brought to a set of free Australian maps for HandMap. We have not produced these maps so cannot vouch for their quality. But we have had so many emails requesting maps of Australia that we thought we would point this out. From our initial inspection these maps are full detail maps. They include all streets and appear to be of quite good quality. The only issue we have found so far is that some streets are named with route numbers rather than their real names. So if you were trying to search for an address you may not find it. However they seem to be quite good for navigating with GPS. As usual you need to purcahse and register HandMap to view these maps. New Release of HandMap for Windows Mobile 5 Details

HandMap v4.0.7 for Windows Mobile 5 PocketPC and SmartPhone devices has been released. The main change in this release is a new installer for Windows PCs. The installer simplifies the installation process considerably. The installation of the progam and all sample maps is done with the press of a button. The installer automatically detects if the device is a PocketPC or SmartPhone and installs the appropriate version. After you purchase HandMap the registration is radically simplified - just enter your member ID and Access Code and press Register! The installer will setup your member account on our web server and register HandMap on your PDA all in one easy step.

HandMap v5.1.4 for PalmOS has been released. The main change is a fix for the Address Book Plugin crash.

Russian Region Maps - Volga Details

We have released a new map collection called Russian Region Maps - Volga. This map collection includes 52 maps. This collection covers Russian regions and republics in Volga Federal District. Maps of large regions are split into parts. Regions covered: (1) Nizhniy Novgorod region (2 maps), (2) Kirov region (5 maps), (3) Chuvashia, (4) Udmurtia (2 maps), (5) Ulianovsk region, (6) Tatarstan (2 maps), (7) Bashkortostan (3 maps), (8) Mari El, (9) Perm region (5 maps) (10) Mordovia, (11) Penza region, (12) Samara region, (13) Saratov region, (14) Orenburg region. These maps contain woods, rivers, lakes, city areas, roads and railroads. The data is actual for late 1990s. The maps are ready to use with GPS receivers with the optional GPS plugin. There are two sets of these maps. One set uses transliterated characters the other uses Russian Cyrillic characters (Maps with names ending in RU). To use the Cyrillic maps on Palm computers last version of HandMap for Palm and a localization program such as PiLoc are required. The full collection costs US$10.

GPS Plugin now FREE Details

The GPS Plugin is now a free addon to HandMap. You only need to buy the main HandMap program (and any map collections you require) and all plugins are free. GPS units are quite common now and most users expect GPS functionality to be a standard feature. We have increased the price of the HandMap program slightly to US$19 effective immediately. This new pricing structure should simplify things for our customers and our support department. If you already own HandMap but not the GPS Plugin then please feel free to download the latest version and install it for free!

Venezuela City Maps Details

We have released a new map collection called Venezuela City Maps. This map collection includes 21 maps. This collection covers all cities with population over 150 000 with their vicinities. There are also overview maps of Venezuela (medium detail maps). City maps contain all streets and different points of interest (railway stations, shop centers, hotels, etc.). The maps are ready to use with GPS receivers and the GPS plugin. The full collection costs US$15.

HandMap for Windows Mobile 5.0 Details

We have now released for public beta testing a new version of HandMap for Windows Mobile devices. This version comes in two flavors - PocketPC and SmartPhone. This new release supports all new Windows mobile devices as well as running on many previous PocketPC 2003 SE devices. Devices older than that are not supported with this release. This is our first release that works on Windows Mobile SmartPhones. This version has been optimized for use on the small non-touch sensitive screens but retains almost all of the functionality of the PocketPC version. It can be used quite comfortably with one hand. There are many exciting new features in this release. We now support high resolution VGA PocketPC devices as well as QVGA SmartPhones (as well as standard resolution devices of course). And also square screens are now supported in normal and HiRes. We are also introducing many online features for those with Internet connectivity on their device. For those in the USA you can lookup a street address using Yahoo local. You can also download points of interest from Yahoo local and store them on your device. These locations are then displayed on your map! For those who live outside of the US we have setup our own web community. This allows any of our users to contribute points of interest to our central server database. Any other user can then download the points in the community to their own maps. We hope that our customers really get into this to build up a good database of points for their local communities. Another new feature that I'm sure many of you will appreciate is GPS auto detection. Now you don't need to know the connection settings of your GPS receivers. Just plug it in (or if it's a bluetooth receiver turn it on and pair it) and start autodetection. Your GPS should be found and the settings recorded. Easy! We have also introduced a simple sketch feature. Have you ever wanted to scribble on a map? You can jot down a route or mark a favorite location. You can choose different colors and line widths to customize your maps. The sketches are saved and scale with your map. All current maps in our collections are supported by this new release. Your current key can be used to unlock this program.

Map Previews Details

We are excited to announce the availability of a major new feature on our web site. You can now preview our map data online. Before you purchase a map collection you now have the ability to look at the map data of every single map in every collection. This allows you to find out the map bounds and whether the map covers the area you require. You can also search for streets and other features by name (or partial name). So why not lookup your own street. If you are thinking of buying a collection or have a license limit on a collection then this is a great way to find out exactly what you are getting. To see a map preview go to the map collection list and click on the More button. This page shows a list of all maps in the chosen collection. Then click on the Preview Map link next to the map you want to explore.

PocketPC Map Installer Details

This new tool makes installing maps to a PocketPC quick and simple. On your Windows PC you simply double-click on a map file ending in a .HMP extension and the map is installed automatically to your connected PocketPC. Your PocketPC must be powered on and connected to ActiveSync. When downloading maps from the member area you can simple choose Open to install it immediately.
