HandMap

mainscreenThe HandMap viewer program turns your PDA into a roving map. Wherever you go you have the comfort of knowing you have your city at your fingertips. Whether you’re visiting a friend or on a business trip you never need get lost again.

With HandMap you can search for street names, intersections, or features such as schools, hospitals, or golf courses. A detailed high resolution render of the map is drawn on your Palm or PocketPC PDA. You can zoom out to view the whole map or zoom in up to x128 for a full detail close up view. Our full detail maps feature all roads within the bounds of the map from major highways down to minor lanes. They also include railways, parkland, rivers, lakes, bays and other bodies of water. Some maps also include building boundaries or detailed points of interest such as restaurants, shopping, and accommodation.

Maps are sold separately to the map viewer program. We have a large range of full detail city maps available for many countries. We even have a map of the moon for amateur astronomers! Why not check out our list of maps.

When you purchase HandMap you also get free access to our set of Overview maps. These maps are generally low or medium detail or a whole country or a large area. They are useful for long distance touring rather than navigation within a city. This collection includes a World Atlas map with countries and major world cities.

We have HandMap versions for PalmOS powered and PocketPC PDAs. To see if HandMap works on your PDA we encourage you to download and try the HandMap progam for yourself. In trial mode you can test some of our free sample maps.

GPS Plugin

gpsOur GPS Plugin is an add-on to the main HandMap viewer program. It adds “your are here” functionality to the map. You must have a GPS Receiver attached to your PDA to provide the satellite signal for the GPS Plugin. A moving arrow is shown on the map to indicate you current location and direction of travel.

You can set your destination with a target icon and then use the current position to track towards it. An arrow in the center of the screen always points towards your target if it is off screen. The distance to the target is shown at the bottom of the screen. Note that HandMap does not provide any routing calculations or voice prompts.

The GPS Plugin is included in the full HandMap download. We encourage you to download and test it with your GPS Receiver to ensure it is compatible. We cannot test all combinations of GPS Receiver and connection type so it is best to check before you buy. We support any GPS Receiver that is connected via a serial port (or virtual serial port) with NMEA protocol support. We also support Bluetooth connected GPS receivers and SD GPS with the iGolf driver for Palm.

Address/Contacts Plugin

The Address Book Plugin on PalmOS and the Contacts Plugin on PocketPC gives you the ability to store map locations in your PDAs main address list. You can select a map location then via a menu store that location in an address that you lookup by name. An icon is then displayed on the map for that address. You can also shift the map to display the location of an address previously stored.

The Address/Contacts Plugin is available for free if you purchase the HandMap program. This plugin is included in the main program download.
